Intro to glacier travel and mountaineering Sept 9/10 2023

CA$400.00

With ski mountaineering season rapidly approaching, now is a great time to get up on a glacier and learn the ins and outs of roped travel and improvised crevasse rescue. In this 2 day course we cover basic crampon use, glacier travel (roped and unroped), and systems for performing an improvised crevasse rescue. We work around actual crevasses on actual glacier ice and snow so that you get a real world feel for what this environment is like. We discuss how these skills can be utilized in ski-mountaineering missions once the snow flies!

This course requires you to have your own light-weight camping gear, harness, and helmet, and full shanked mountaineering boots, and crampons (hiking boots are not acceptable). Boots and crampons can be rented from Equinox in Whitehorse We can provide other technical gear. Participants are required to prep and pack lightweight backpacking food for 2 days/1 night out. Participants should have experience with backpacking and backcountry camping and be fit enough to hike a 3hr approach.
