Ogilvie Mountains Trek
Ogilvie Mountains Trek
A remote but little visited mountain range in the central Yukon, the Ogilvies offer breath-taking scenery, beautiful open trekking, and the chance to encounter wildlife such as Dall’s Sheep, Caribou, Grizzly and Black bears, Moose, and more. We take a floatplane to a remote Yukon lake where we begin our 75km adventure along a high mountain route that takes us across the rugged Ogilvie range to the Dempster highway and Tombstone Park. This challenging trek follows a route that few other humans follow. You’ll backpack along open alpine ridges, over high mountain passes, through beautiful valleys, over rocky peaks, past waterfalls, and more. There are no trails on this route except for the ones the sheep, caribou, and wolves follow but your guide knows it well!
Day 0: You arrive in Whitehorse and stay at a hotel. We will have a trip planning meeting on this day.
Day 1: Drive the beautiful north Klondike highway to the village of Mayo and the floatplane base on the Stewart River. Fly into a remote alpine lake and camp for the night.
Day 2: Wake up in the morning, eat a good breakfast, shoulder our packs and start our journey through the mountains with a hearty climb to a high pass.
Day 2 - 7: We trek through the Ogilvies camping in beautiful locations along the way.
Day 7: We finish our trek at the Dempster highway where our shuttle will take you to Dawson City to continue your Yukon adventure. (Hotel, Can Can show, and an evening in Dawson City)
Day 8: Drive the scenic Klondike highway back to Whitehorse. Note: some guests opt to fly back to Whitehorse on Air North)
